Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw led a Kansas City delegation that participated in the 5th Sino-US Sister Cities Conference in China. The delegation members included Dwayne Williams, Chair of the Yan’an Committee, and Michael Shaw, Director of the Public Works Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri. Mayor Pro Tem also presented at the concurrent forum on Environmental Protection and Climate Change.
In addition to attending the conference, the delegation visited Shanghai, Xi’an, and Yan’an during its visit from October 31 to November 8. They engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening the friendly relationships between Kansas City and these Chinese cities. These discussions involved meetings with the mayors of Xi’an and Yan’an, as well as representatives from people-to-people friendship organizations in Shanghai and Shaanxi Province, where Xi’an and Yan’an are located. The delegation also explored potential exchange programs through visits to local businesses, cultural centers, and tourist attractions.
Joan Pu, Secretary of the Association, dedicated countless hours to assist in planning the trip. She collaborated with contacts in Xi’an, Yan’an, Shanghai, and the conference organizer to craft the itinerary, ensuring that the delegation’s visit would be productive, successful, and seamless.
